The ruins of Kilchurn Castle, which was built in the mid-1400s by Sir Colin Campbell, 1st Lord of Glenorchy, stand at the north end of Loch Awe in Argyllshire. The castle was a Campbell powerbase for many years but was abandoned in the late 1700s following its use as an outpost for government troops during the Jacobite rebellions of 1715 and 1745.
