Castle of Mey

Castle of Mey 4 copy

The Castle of Mey on the Caithness coast was built by George, the 4th Earl of Caithness, for his second son William Sinclair in the 16th Century. The name was changed to Barrogill Castle in the 18th Century and it became the seat of the Earls of Caithness. The castle was subsequently sold to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother in 1952 and she used it as a holiday home for almost half a century.
